Fallout from Sesame Street Shakeup Continues

Just days after producers of Sesame Street announced that they are putting the Cookie Monster on a diet as part of an anti-obesity drive, sources close to the long-running children's show say that still more changes are expected. Among the likely rewrites: perennial 'roommates' Bert and Ernie will finally move into separate rooms, Oscar the Grouch will vacate his garbage can for a long-term care facility and a new character, Noah, will educate young viewers about the great flood and other lessons from the Bible.

Shakeup intended to help twenty-five year old show face the 'real world'

HOLLYWOOD, CA—Young Sesame Street fans, still reeling from the news that the Cookie Monster is all but giving up cookies, will soon be forced to face yet more changes in their long-time favorite show. Sources close to the show say that the producers of the twenty-five year old program plan a further shakeup of the Sesame Street lineup.

Among the likely rewrites: perennial 'roommates' Bert and Ernie will finally move into separate rooms, Oscar the Grouch will vacate his garbage can for a long-term care facility, and a new character, Noah, will educate young viewers about the great flood and other lessons from the Bible.

Cookie Monster curbs an addiction
Earlier this month, the producers of Sesame Street announced that Cookie Monster will cut back on his favorite food in hopes that his young viewers—many of whom are big and fat—will cut back on theirs. As part of the makeover, Mr. Monster will cease singing "C is for Cookie," and will instead croon "A Cookie is a Sometimes Food." In an effort to bolster his new healthy message, Mr. Monster will be joined in future Sesame Street episodes by singing carrots and eggplants, along with such human spokespeople as pop star Alicia Keys.

More changes afoot
But Mr. Monster's slimmed down blue physique is just one of several changes to the felt-clad lineup. Beginning this spring, Sesame Street will debut a new puppet named 'Noah,' who is intended to appeal to the show's burgeoning audience of young Christians. The character, whose puppet persona comes complete with an arc, will have responsibility for two letters in the alphabet call-out portion of the show: 'F,' which stands for 'flood,' and 'G,' which now stands for 'God.'

Ernie and Bert Separate
But it's the subtle changes that are likely to prove most wrenching for the show's young audience. Long-time roommates Ernie and Bert finally will be getting separate rooms, a move that is prompted, say sources close to the show, by continued fallout from the gay scandals that have rocked the cartoon world of late. Earlier this year, underwater icon SpongeBob SquarePants was 'outed' by the Reverend James Dobson, while Buster, the cartoon rabbit featured on PBS, was linked to a same sex couple in Vermont.

"We're all just keeping our heads down for now," said a close friend of Bert and Ernie. "As far as the show is concerned, Bert and Ernie are a couple of confirmed bachelors. There's nothing more to it than that." The source denies recent rumors that Sesame Street star Big Bird and Barney, the iconic purple dinosaur, have also split.

Oscar finally getting help
And in a bittersweet development, Sesame Street producers have also decided to remove Oscar the Grouch from the garbage can he has long called home. Instead, Oscar will be relocated to a half-way house where counseling and other rehabilitation services are available on-site. The move, says Elmo, a series regular and a close friend to the star, could help the grouchy puppet begin to transition back into society.

"Our hope is that with a little help, Oscar can gain some self respect, get a job and begin saving some money. Then it's only a matter of time before he's able to join the investor class," says Elmo. "Why should Oscar be denied the entrepreneurial opportunities the rest of us have just because he's spent the past two decades living in a garbage can?"

Dear Martha:

I am particularly interested in the materials that have to do
with the role of dispensationalism (end-time belief) in the conflict
in Palestine. One of the ways that I can help is to collect the
facts and pull together a summary of what is going on and to present
it to the Body of Christ.

You know, I have heard for years that the Church did nothing
about the slaughter of the Jews in World War II because they thought
Hitler was the anti-Christ and they were hesitant to resist his
actions because they thought it was all a part of the end-times
prophecies. It appears that the Church and our nation are once
again turning a deaf ear to this current situation because they
believe that the Jewish/Paelstinian conflict is a part of end-time
prophecy and that it must be allowed to run its course. They
also believe that they must stand with Israel - regardless -
if they don’t, they will come under a curse from God!

I am writing several key leaders with this information and
I am asking them for their insights into the situation. Let’s
pray that God will somehow use us to expose this mess and to
bring restoration into the picture. The problem is further
complicated with the fact that neither side believes in Jesus -
neither the Jews nor the Palestinians. Of course, we know that
this conlfict will only be settled in the Person of Jesus Himself.
And this is the key reason that Ali and others who know Jesus
are in a very strategic position to effect lasting change.

Our prayers, tears. and deep concerns go up before the Lord
continually regarding this entire situation and the safety of Ali
and the other men and women of God in that area of the world.
“Lord, give us wisdom - for we have never been this way before!”

What is our world coming to? I grew up on these shows. I still know the theme songs. My favorite was the, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-......12 pin ball short. I didn't care that Oscar lived in a can. I didn't think twice about Bert and Ernie's living arrangements. Big Bird was huge and yellow, Barney was a little weird, but as my son was growing up, I sang the songs with him. The problem isn't these shows. It's the worlds innability to solve their own problems, that they have to nit pick and blame those that will back down and compromise what they have been doing for however many years. It makes me sick that the shows I grew up on have to take the blame for what so many parents and leaders have let happen over the past few decades. Obesity....blame it on kids shows! Homosexuality........blame it on kids shows!! Living in a garbage can..........blame it on kids shows!!! I can't believe what this world is coming to. Anyone happen to catch Jerry Springer lately? Anybody say anything about that? Anyone happen to see what has been on prime time television the past few years? Nothing but filth. Since Burt and Ernie have been around as long as they have , this would seem to serve as evidence they probably are not homosexual since the average life expectancy of this kind of activity is only 42 years of age (for men, slighty higher for females) .
As for Noah , there is much evidence this story is true (underwater fossils found on mountain tops , and perhaps the discovery of the arc itself) . If this is true , this would be a significant part of histoy .
Learning to think and reason with logic these days seems to be considered "uncool" . Yet it can take you so much farther than following a herd of cows .

Will these suddenly body conscious kids start looking to make other changes? Beard and bust implants by the first grade? What happens to the snack food industry?
